Mobile Construction Battalion Seven History
15 August 1951
U S Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Seven was established and commissioned
at the U S Naval Yards and Docks Supply Depot at Davisville, Rhode Island.

1 October 1951 to 19 March 1952
The Battalion was employed at Port Lyautey, French Morocco, on projects
assigned by the Public Works Officer, Naval Facilities. These projects
included work on an air station, a communication facility, and an ordnance
facility.
20 May 1952 to 17 October 1952
At the Guantanamo Naval Base, Cuba, the Battalion constructed barracks,
jet fuel tanks, and a perimeter security road and they installed underground
piping
14 January 1953 to 14 June 1953
The Battalion was at Port Lyautey, French Morocco, constructing ordnance
buildings and facilities, a gymnasium, a squadron shop, office buildings,
a drum storage area, a pistol range, and an LST ramp and wharf. They also
installed perimeter fencing, built a gate house, relocated quonset huts,
and rehabilitated and enlarged an outdoor theater.

September 1953 to March 1954
The Battalion was at Guantanomo Bay, Cuba.
20 May 1954 to 27 December 1954
The Battalion returned to Port Lyautey, French Morocco. and worked
on roads, a ready issue magazine, drainage for a tank farm, barracks construction
and rehabilitation, repairs and maintenance of quarters, and Seabee camp
rehabilitation.
28 February 1955 to 9 October 1955
At Argentia, Newfoundland, the Battalion constructed 45 units of a
Department of Defense housing project, a civilian dormitory, and an extention
to an airfield runway.

15 February 1956 to 29 August 1956
The Battalion was employed at Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. They worked
on a road construction project, constructed two buildings, and rehabilitated
four buildings.

The Battalion worked at the Naval Facility at Barbados in the West
Indies.
11 February 1957 to 1 October 1957
Detachment Kilo worked at Port Lyautey, French Morocco, to construct
magazines and shops, and rehabilitated communications facilities. LCDR

February 1958 to 30 September 1959
The Battalion separated into three detachments and worked on various
islands in the West Indies. At Grand Turk Island they constructed permanent
buildings and assorted facilities for a naval base; at South Caicos Island
they constructed an air strip, an access road and a U S Coast Guard LORAN
station; and at San Salvador Island they constructed permanent buildings
and associated facilities for a naval base and a U S Coast Guard LORAN
station.
Spring 1958 to Fall 1958
A detachment was stationed in Barbados, West Indies. I need details.

14 January 1960 to 5 August 1960 At Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico,
the Battalion worked on a replacement housing project, security fencing,
a pier extention, pipelines and roads.

Spring of 1960
A three month detachment to St. Thomas, U S Virgin Islands, under CEC
Warrant Officer Charles L Neugent, sixteen men performed piling and pier
restoration work.

11 January 1961 to 11 October 1961
MCB 7 was employed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, constructing 20 structures
for enlisted men’s quarters and a two building community center and improving
the Seabee camp.
December 1961 to April 1962
Detachment NOVEMBER was on duty in Bermuda where they worked on salt
water pumping and purification by installing a desalinization system.
April 1962 to August 1962
Detachment NOVEMBER went dirctly to Argentia, Newfoundland, where they
constructed and repaired roads. They returned for assignment at Camp LeJeune,
North Carolina.
13 January 1962 to 8 July 1962
At Rota, Spain, the Battalion completed an 86 man barracks, shops,
and office building for Navy air squadrons. They also worked on roads,
erosion control and soil stabilization.

30 October 1962 to 23 July 1963
MCB 7 was employed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, on Project MIGHT, a project
to improve the defenses of the Guantanamo Naval Base during the Missle
Crisis.
11 October 1963 to 11 December 1963
Detachment Quebec undertook “Project Patsy”, the construction of a
communications site at Gura, Ethiopia. There were 43 men and one officer
of MCB 7, six men from MCB 6, the first Seabees to set foot on Ethiopian
soil.

November 1963 to 21 April 1964
At Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico, the Battalion replaced the fender
system on station piers and repaved roads. A detachment at the ammunition
depot, Delta Company, on Vieques Island, built roads, converted a warehouse
into a barracks and rehabilitated ammunition magazines. In addition, E
Company, at the Underwater Demolition Team Training Facility at Charlotte
Amalie, St. Thomas, U S Virgin Islands, worked on rehabilitation and repair
work.
8 April 1964 to 20 May 1964
Stat 7-2 Seabee technical assistance team deployed to Holy Loch, Scotland,
to undertake a training mission with a ten man team.

3 October 1964 to 17 April 1965
MCB 7 was employed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. There they constructed
barracks for contractor personnel, rehabilitated a boat shed, constructed
a recreation building at Leeward Point, repaired a road to the VHF/UHF
radio station, replaced a sanitary sewer system, constructed a new recreation
building and rehabilitated buildings in the Seabee camp.
26 July 1965 to 30 November 1965
The Battalion was employed at Rota, Spain. They worked on the construction
of 96 prefabricated homes for dependent housing for the U S Naval Station,
Rota. The project also included streets, sanitary systems, water and utilities.
9-15 April 1966 to 8-11 December 1966
The Battalion headquarters was at Hue-Phu Bai, Vietnam. The battalion
constructed cantonments for U S Marine units, an airstrip and a causeway.
They also built 44,000 cubic feet of cold storage space, towers and an
electronics building for an Army communications unit, and portions of the
Dong Ha Combat Base.

1-4 June 1967 to 18-20 January 1968
The Battalion headquarters were located at Camp Adenir, Danang East,
Vietnam. The Battalion worked primarily for the U S Naval Suport Activity.
This work included the Danang Recreation Center, Public work comlex, small
craft repair facility, covered storage facilities and a sation hospital.
They also worked on roads, technical stores buildings, generator converter
sheds and runway lighting.

12-15 May 1968 to 3-7 April 1969
The Battalion headquarters were at Camp Barnes, Dong Ha Combat Base,
Vietnam. The Battalion upgraded and rebuilt roads and bridges, constraucted
an ammunition supply point, replaced a pontoon bridge with a permanent
bridge, built a fuel tank farm at Quang Tri and constructed housing for
U S Marines and Army units.

8-13 October 1969 to 17-23 June 1970
The Battalion headquarters were at Camp Shields, Chu Lai Combat Base,
Vietnam. The Battalion was assigned a top priority construction project.
Nearly one third of the men were sent to Landing Zone Baldy and Fire Support
Base Ross where they built more than 350 wood-frame structures, including
Southeast Asia huts. galley-messhalls, clubs, showers, and sanitation facilities.
At other locations they built gun pads, extended and resurfaced runways,
erected watch towers and wunder arch hangers and laid steel matting.

Mobile Construction Battalion Seven was disestablished at Davisville
C.B.C., Rhode Island.
